What to Expect on Sundays
Whether you've attended church your entire life or never been at all, we know it’s not easy visiting a church for the first time. You’re not quite sure what to expect and you probably have a lot of questions. We at Northminster want to give you the best experience possible.
Here’s some information that should help:
When is the service?
We have one service that meets at 10:00am on Sunday mornings.
What should I wear?
Whatever you want! We welcome jeans, t-shirts, ties, tuxedos…you get the idea. You’ll see a few folks dressed up; you’ll find a lot of folks dressed pretty casually. The only rule we have is: Come as you are!
How do I get there?
Northminster is located at 4324 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. in the Clairemont community of San Diego. We’re between Genesee Ave. and Clairemont Dr. right next to the O’Reilly Auto Parts store. For more detailed information, visit our Time and Location page.
What happens when I arrive?
When you pull into the parking lot, park anywhere you’d like (except the handicapped spots, of course!). If the lot is full and you end up in the rear part of the parking lot, you can feel free to walk through the playground area, which is a direct route to the worship building.
Once you get to the patio, you’ll see a table with nametags and markers. We’d love for you to put a nametag on so we can greet you by name. No pressure, though!
When you enter the worship building, you’ll be greeted by one of our awesome people and handed a bulletin. You can then find a seat anywhere you’d like.
What’s the service like?
First of all, you won't be pointed out or made to feel uncomfortable in any way. You will have a meaningful, stress-free experience...and you might even have some fun!
Each service is about 65-70 minutes. During the first 10 minutes of the service you'll get to enjoy some modern worship music led by our Worship Band. We'll have the words to each song up on the screen, so you can sing as much as you feel comfortable!
After a couple of songs and a prayer, we’ll have a few moments to say hi to the folks around us. One of our leaders will then welcome everyone and mention a couple of quick announcements. After that, we’ll invite the kids who are in Kindergarten-6th grade to come up for a prayer together and then send them out with their Kids Life teachers who will take them to their respective classes for the rest of the service. If you have kids and would like to accompany them to their class at this point, you can feel free to do so.
After the kids go to their classes, we’ll usually sing one more song, receive the offering, and then jump into the day’s teaching. Each message/sermon is about 30 minutes long and digs into the scriptures in a way that is engaging, eye-opening, challenging yet non-judgmental, and applicable to everyday life. After the teaching, we’ll generally sing another one or two songs to close.
We offer Communion on the first Sunday of the month. Communion takes place immediately following the sermon. And, FYI, if your kids go to Sunday School they will come back into the service for Communion. Including our kids in Communion--even if they don't fully understand it--is something that's really important to us.
What about my kids?

Kids Life will be the BEST hour of your kid’s week! All children—from birth to 6th grade—are invited to join us in a fun, interactive time where our team of trained volunteers creates a fun, safe, and loving environment. Your child will want to come back every week!
Infants through preschoolers may be dropped off as early as 9:20am. Parents, please sign your child in and out on the sign-in sheet.
Kindergarten through 6th graders will join their parents during the first fifteen minutes of the church service. This is a meaningful opportunity for them to participate in the church service: singing the songs and getting to know other grown-ups in their church! It also lets them know they’re just as much a part of our community as the grown-ups. About fifteen minutes into the service, the children will be invited forward for a prayer and will then head out to their classes. Their teachers will meet them in the back of the sanctuary/worship center and take them directly to their classes. If you’d like to accompany your son or daughter to their class and then come back to the worship service, please feel free to do so.
Please pick up your children immediately following the service.
Infants through preschoolers: Parents are asked to sign out babies and preschoolers from their classroom immediately following the service.
K-3rd Graders: Parents are asked to sign out K-3rd graders immediately following the service.
4th-6th graders: Teachers will dismiss 4th-6th graders to meet you in front of the Sanctuary.
