3 Reasons You Need to Sign Up for a Growth Group
- Sunday mornings aren't enough. Don't get me wrong; I think Sunday mornings are great! (Of course, I may be a bit biased.) Sunday mornings are a great time to see our brothers and sisters. They're a great time to focus on worshiping God and learning as we listen to the scriptures. They're a time for prayer. But you can only go so deep on a Sunday morning. All of us need time to unpack the things that are going on in our lives and the questions we're wrestling with. And that usually doesn't happen on Sunday mornings.
- We all need Christian friends. Again, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying you shouldn't have friends who aren't Christians. But we need to move beyond being simply church acquaintances to really developing friendships in our church. As we deepen our friendships with each other, we'll learn to trust each other more, be able to find support and encouragement from each other when we need it, and be strengthened in our own faith as discover that we can actually give support and encouragement to each other.
- There's always more to talk about. I guess this is kinda like #1 above. But it's true. There's always more than what can be said on Sunday morning. Besides, Sunday mornings tend to focus on what one person says--the preacher. But you have something to say, too. You have thoughts and ideas to offer. You have questions and doubts that, if we put our heads together and wrestle with those questions, can lead to an even deeper faith. The conversation doesn't have to end when church ends on Sunday morning. It doesn't even have to end when your Growth Group meeting ends. It can keep going as you deepen your friendships and continue getting together. But these conversations can get started in your Growth Group.
